Ah, Time Rush! My  submission to the game Jam, brought to life in just five days. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Five days? Weren't you given two whole weeks?" Well, in my defense, I didn't exactly join the party on time. You see, I completely missed the memo until a full week had already passed me by. But hey, that's what caffeine-fueled coding binges are for, am I right? With a little sleep deprivation and a lot of determination, I managed to churn out Time Rush in record time. Who needs a full two weeks, anyway? I'll take my five-day masterpiece any day of the week!

The Android got a small bug :)

Game concept

The game concept revolves around the jam's theme of "Time," where Time Rush emphasizes that time is the ultimate currency. Every aspect of the game, including ammunition, health terminals, and the timer, are all interconnected, and using any of them consumes time while providing a beneficial outcome. Whether it be replenishing ammo for your weapons, repairing your level, or unlocking the portal at the end of each level, each action requires a careful balance of time management to progress through the game.

Pick Ups

Like most games, Time Rush offers a variety of pickups to help players heal and protect themselves. Throughout the levels, you will come across time capsules that heal your timer by five units, thereby also healing yourself. Additionally, you will encounter shield capsules that enable you to ignore a single instance of damage, with the number of capsules you collect directly influencing how many instances of damage you can ignore. With these pickups at your disposal, you can carefully strategize and maneuver through each level, minimizing the damage taken while optimizing your use of time to progress through the game.

Ah, the age-old struggle of a game developer: too many ideas, too little time. I could have taken Time Rush to the next level, with all sorts of crazy features and gameplay mechanics. Alas, pesky old work kept getting in the way, and my time was running short. But just in case anyone's curious, here are a few of the ideas

Skills that I wanted to add (I added only the shield)

Wow, if you're still reading this, you deserve a medal! Seriously though, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to play Time Rush. I know there are a million and one other things you could be doing right now, so the fact that you've chosen to spend even a small chunk of your day on my little game means the world to me.

And fear not, my dear reader, for Time Rush is far from over. I'll be continuing to work on the game and document my progress through regular devlogs, so you can stay in the loop and watch as this little project of mine grows into something truly special.

Of course, I couldn't have done any of this without the amazing folks over at GameDevjs, who provided the perfect platform for me to showcase my skills and creativity. This game jam was my first, but it certainly won't be my last. So thanks again, and I hope to see you in the next one!
